Late Night Infomercials…

As I’ve been sick over the past couple of days, sleep hasn’t come easily at times. Each of the past two nights, I’ve found myself wide awake at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning. To pass the time (and hopefully get back to sleep), I decided I’d go sit in my recliner in my home office and turn on the TV.

I never knew I was missing out on so much by sleeping.

You see, I discovered the joys of infomercials. Tons of them.

Internet secrets for wealth. Special “medications” for men. Books written to tell us all the secrets that “they” don’t want us to know about… health cures, getting out of debt… you name it.

Scams, scams, and more scams. Simply amazing to me.

Worse than all of these, though?

Supposed “men of God” like Peter Popoff (what a name!) peddling junk like “miracle manna” and “miracle water”, and selling the prosperity gospel through books “Divine Wealth: Supernatural Promises for Millenial Prosperity!”. Yeah… a supposed “Christian”, preying on those who are desperately in search of hope.

What a messed up world.

How are you guys feeling? My kids are sick too. They just have a little cold, though. I barely got any sleep last night but we don’t have t.v. so I missed out on all those infomecials. We watch t.v. at my parents house and it just reminds me of how I’m so glad we don’t have t.v. However, my favorite channel is the game show channel. Oh, and we’ve been watching American Idol at their house too.

The sad thing about those t.v. ministers is that sometimes they are the only gospel that the world gets. I wonder how many people in the world have a false view of God because of some of those t.v. ministers. My parents didn’t go to church when I was younger and I remember watching Benny Hinn thinking, “Wow, he must be something special.” I’m glad God delivered me from that way of thinkimg. Well, anyways, I hope you guys get better.

I wouldn’t say that you missed out on much. As you’re well aware, there really isn’t much worth watching nowadays.

You hit the nail on the head about most of these televangelists… their messages are simply not in line with the real gospel of Christ, and their methods? Perhaps even worse than their theology. It is so sad that many people will never have a chance to know the truth because of men like these.

Sorry to hear your kids are a bit under the weather. We’re doing a bit better today (although today, Jenna has started coming down with something). Hopefully everyone will be well by Easter.
