In the reading plan I’ve got, each day has a different theme to it. Today, I’m starting the “History” portion, beginning in Joshua.
Today’s thoughts on the passages:
How awesome it must have been for Joshua to have God speak directly with him? Imagine God saying the things he did to Joshua… to you…
- “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Kinda brings a new urgency to Bible study, doesn’t it?)
- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Talk about encouragement!)
It’s interesting to me how God brought the people of Israel to understand that He was with Joshua, just as He was with Moses… by parting another body of water, the Jordan River (Joshua 3:14-17).
Joshua 4:1-9 brings an interesting concept… creating memorials to God’s working. It’s not something we do very often anymore, but I can definitely see the benefit. It’s easy to lose sight of how God has been working, but to have something tangible to remind us of how He has in the past? It seems like a good thing. The question… how do we incorporate this concept into our lives?
Joshua 5:11-12… Can you imagine how the people of Israel responded to their first meal in 40 years that wasn’t manna?
Anyone else have thoughts about these passages?
