Well, I’m back from the fishing trip / men’s retreat now, so it’s time to get back to the normal blogging schedule with Bible in a Year. We’re in Psalm 27-29 today, but Psalm 28 stands out to me.
When is the last time you felt as David did… crying out to God, desperately needing to hear from Him? Asking for God’s mercy and assistance? Wondering if He’ll really answer?
Verses 1-2 capture these feelings and pleas well…
Psalm 28:1-2 (NIV)
1To you I call, O LORD my Rock;
do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you remain silent,
I will be like those who have gone down to the pit.2Hear my cry for mercy
as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands
toward your Most Holy Place.
When we finally do hear from God, it’s an amazing thing… our hearts are almost instantly filled with joy and praise… whatever depression, despair, hurts or pains that were there, suddenly gone.
Check out how verses 6-7 describe the moment…
Psalm 28:6-7
6Praise be to the LORD,
for he has heard my cry for mercy.7The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy
and I will give thanks to him in song.
We definitely need to hear from God regularly, not only for direction in our lives, but also simply for our well-being.
