A Good Walk Spoiled…

I believe it was Mark Twain that said,

Golf is a good walk spoiled.

My dad and I enjoyed an outing at the Mozingo Lake golf course today. It’s safe to say that both of us experienced moments that embody the essense of Mark Twain’s quote!

I won’t go into his round, but I will share about mine.

On the front nine, I shot a 42… 6 over par (with no mulligans, even!)! Birdied my third hole… AMAZING for my first round in three years!

As for the back nine? Well, that’s where I experienced a good walk spoiled (even though we rode). I came out behind… way behind… in the balls found / balls lost category. I even lost a ball I hit straight at the green on a hole (now you figure that one out!). Score? I quit keeping track about the 13th hole, and instead went with a checkmark for complete. 🙂

So yeah… I remember once again both why I used to love golf so much, and why I gave it up.

I know a ton of good jokes about golf, most of which apply to me. The one that’s “nearest and dearest”, I think, is the observation that I stood too far away from the ball before I hit it, and too close to it after.

And .. as I sit looking at the Security Words I must type to post this, I see “Handicap Humafne”. hmmm…

For me, the course played a bit too low, that is the only explanation for hitting the ball too thin!
“A good walk spoiled”, maybe, but time well spent between a father and son.
