Why “Toward the Goal”?

Scripture tells us that the instant we’re saved, we become a new creation (2 Cor 5:17). It tells us the old has gone, and the new has come. How simple that sounds!

The truth of the matter is that life is not that easy. True, at the moment of salvation, our sins are forgiven, and we’re right with God for the first time in our lives. The problem (maybe challenge is a better word) is that our walk with God doesn’t become perfect overnight. We’re still tempted by the same sins, we’re still immature in our faith — the bottom line is that we WILL fall again. So what is the Christian life really about?

I think Paul says it best in Philippians 3:10-14 —

10I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Our goal is to be like Christ. It’s a lifetime journey, not an overnight transformation (although our salvation itself is instantaneous, praise God!). The key (as I see it) is this — keep moving forward, one step at a time. Press on toward the goal! Don’t let the mistakes of the past hinder you! Live each day for Christ!

Easy to say, I know. The comforting thing is that we have a Lord that loves us so much. Christ knows we will fall. Thanks be to God that he is more than willing to pick us up, dust us off, and set us back on the path that leads to Him.

So… what’s the point of this site? “Toward the Goal” encapsulates my life. I stumble and fall all too often in my Christian walk, yet I know that God has plans for me even in the midst of those setbacks. This site is all about sharing life lessons, Biblical truths, Christian perspectives on current events, and yes, even trivial and fun things that simply bring smiles to our faces. This site is a tool I believe God is leading me to use to help others press on towards Him.

I’m not a pastor, and I’m certainly not a super-Christian… but I believe the promises of God… I believe that faith can (and does) move mountains… and I believe that God can use each one of us (even those of us with serious flaws) to make a difference for His Kingdom.

I hope that this site is a blessing to you. May God bless you in your daily walk with Him.
